What Is The Right Strategy For Your Divorce?

A divorce strategy is impossible to choose without considering your whole life situation. Often, the discussion of strategy is boiled down to “aggressive” versus “conciliatory,” but that’s a massive oversimplification. The best strategy for you is the one that works.

At McKinlay Law Offices, LLC, we take actions that make a difference for our clients. Every client we have is unique. We serve people across Columbus and Central Ohio with intentional, considered strategies designed to pursue specific outcomes. Our goal is to be the attorney you need when you need legal counsel and representation.

A Brief Overview Of The Ohio Divorce Process

The divorce process in Ohio can seem fairly straightforward. For example, under Ohio law, living separate and apart without cohabitation for in excess of a year provides grounds for divorce. Likewise, a couple’s agreement that they are incompatible with each other also constitutes grounds for divorce. Once you have begun the divorce process by completing and serving the proper paperwork, you must come to an agreement on several matters, such as:

  • Child custody
  • Spousal support
  • Property division

If you both agree, the attorney(s) involved draft all appropriate paperwork, submit same to the court for review and approval, and arrange a final hearing, which can often be conducted by Zoom.

Support With Child-Related Issues

Aside from property division, child custody and support issues are the most contentious matters you may face. Our attorneys are certified by the Ohio State Bar Association as Specialists in Family Relations Law, and we can guide you through these matters. We will work directly with you – and a team of professionals including child psychologists, other mental health professionals, forensic accounts, vocational evaluators, and others when necessary – to establish your priorities before moving forward.

Toughness And Compassion When You Need It

Divorce can become a difficult, strenuous legal battle. When the situation demands aggressive, unyielding advocacy, we meet that challenge. However, blind aggressiveness isn’t a successful legal strategy. A large percentage of our domestic relations disputes settle amicably under firm negotiations. We can strive to help you build a low-conflict divorce.
